Short answer: Forty bands, fifteen writers, four venues, two days, $0.
Long answer:
This shindig was the brainchild of local music geeks Arya Imig and Eirean Bradley as an answer to the question: How do we get all of the rad power/noise/dance/spazz pop bands in our lovely home town to play together, get to know each other, and make tons of rad shows together? How do we make sure everyone can come and check out a bunch of bands they may not have heard of yet, but will probably fall in love with if given the chance?
BIG ASS BOOMBOX is our attempt to do that, and since 2012 (our debut) was so much damn fun and so damn successful (20 bands who were amazing), we decided to do it again and again and again. Only, we’ve doubled the size (40 bands who are amazing), added a literary stage (15 of PDX’s best novelists, poets, essayists, and weirdos), invited down bands from Seattle, and made it two days long.
Whew.
It’s still free to the public, has all ages stages, and is packed to the damn brim with bands and writers that we are stoked to be able to showcase. We are pretty sure you will find your new favorite band here. And if you don’t?
